Cowboy History

Through the services of numerous unique programs, The Arc provides community education, mentorship, advocacy, professional case management, juvenile justice, and basic needs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Texas Cowboys have played a vital role in the success of The Arc during the years.

Cowboy BBQ Check PresentationOriginally founded in 1922 to stir interest and add color to athletic events, the Texas Cowboys have evolved into an organization that serves the University of Texas in all ways possible, including various community service endeavors.

Their partnership with The Arc of the Capital Area began in 1954 after serving a community service sentence. For the past 50 years the Cowboys’ contributions to The Arc have been both faithful and substantial. From 1962 to 1982, the Cowboys contributed more than $120,000 toward the payment and up-keep of our current building.

In addition to financial contributions, the Cowboys have also made volunteer contributions to The Arc's activities such as the annual holiday party, spring picnic, "Building Bridges" Art Celebration & Auction, Bass Roundup and Kidfish. It is these social events that have cemented individual and group relationships during the years, and we are continually grateful for all that they do.
