About the Arc Respite Program
The Saturday Respite Care Program provides children with developmental disabilities an opportunity to socialize with other children their age, while giving parents a much-needed break. This much-needed break allows parents to handle personal errands such as grocery shopping, doctor appointments, and/or work-related activities, or to simply spend time with other family members who may not receive as much attention as the person with a disability. These important activities are often difficult to accomplish while caring full-time for a child with a disability.
Details you need to know:
Our Respite Care Program is by appointment only and takes place once every month for four hours in Travis County. Each child is matched with a trained respite volunteer who understands their needs and can interact with them appropriately.
Respite activities promote independence, confidence, learning and improved socialization skills for children with disabilities. Activities may include arts and crafts, textures/exploration activities, educational board games and puzzles.
Aug. 15 was the last respite at the BBTMHMR facility in Round Rock. Respite attendees residing in Williamson County are invited to attend the respites scheduled monthly in Travis County at the Easter Seals of Central Texas facility. The Travis County respites are scheduled on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Effective with the respite scheduled for Saturday Sept. 12, there will be a $20 fee per session, required for each respite attendee. Families with more than one Arc client attending the respite will pay $20 for one attendee and $10 per additional qualified attendee.
Payments must be by personal check or money order made payable to The Arc of the Capital Area and will be accepted at each respite when clients arrive. We cannot accept cash payments.
Clients traveling from Williamson County can access the Headway Circle facility traveling south on IH-35, to Braker or Rundberg, east to Dessau /Cameron Road, south to Rutherford, east to Headway. Headway can also be accessed from the IH-35 and Hwy 183 east exchange.
